Thoughts Concerning The King by Elizabeth Prentiss is a collection of sentences, paragraphs, and poems excerpted from her books and letters. I knew this book was a treasure the first time I read it, and I have been interested in reprinting it for a long time. The original typesetting and print quality of the 1890 edition was actually rather poor, so I made a decision to completely type up and reformat the original text. The result is this new, high quality digital edition. The original text has been reformatted into a highly readable 41 page document complete with decorative graphics, and includes a new introduction and short bio of Elizabeth Prentiss. Elizabeth Prentiss, wife of a Presbyterian minister, was a Christian author and poet of the late 1800′s. She is best known as the author of the book “Stepping Heavenward” and the hymn “More Love to Thee”.
The message of this small book revolves around two main themes: Jesus the Savior and Jesus the Consoler. Through excerpts from her poems and personal letters, the reader is drawn into Elizabeth Prentiss’ deep understanding of suffering and pain. Her difficult spiritual journey as a young woman gave her an extraordinary appreciation of the person and work of Christ. When read slowly and meditatively, this book yields rich insights to those who desire to know Christ more deeply.
